The south wall presents, in almost all its 3000 meters of height a jetty that was used for the first ascension by a French expedition in 1954, this breakwater is relatively sure in the presence of rock detachments and avalanches. The expeditions that enter by the south face normal make the dissension by the normal route
 
 
 
 


The first part of the approach is the same as the normal route: follow the trail from the Horcones Lake to Confluencia; instead of crossing the bridge at Confluencia keep on the right side of the river and climb to the Horcones Inferior Valley.

 

 


The trail keeps on the east side of the river and of the Inferior Horcones Glacier for 13 kilometers to Plaza France at 4500 meters, which is the traditional base camp for the south face routes.
